I’m 20 years old, I studied Media and film in kings school of media in 2016, I worked as a Director and as a Camera operator in AV Gear company in Jerusalem
I chose the film industry because I believe in the power of motion picture and how it affect the humans, so I’m using it as a tool to make a change, and as well as follow my passion
I know the film industry in Jordan is growing , and Jordan now has alot of foreign films using locations set in Jordan and I want to be a part of that
my career aspirations is to become a writer and a film director
Back in 2016 I took an internship with my previous film school “kings school of media” in a company called AV Gear, it was basically a rental company they rent audio equipment, video equipment.. etc. the film school was hands on, that’s what I liked about it, there was also a positive challenging environment, we all supported each other and helped each other improve, I had no idea what to expect from it at first, but I knew it was my first step to enter the filmmaking industry, I learned about lights, cameras, art history, writing, and film critic, I developed my skill in being professional on sets. a year after i graduated I started working with this company on live productions, concerts and conferences, working with them I learned more when it comes to directing I’d switch from one shot or the other based on the beat of the music that was preformed, and based on the creative shot I’m taking, I really liked how I had to judge fast and act fast but wisely, specially that it was a live production, I enjoyed every part of it, and when I was the one operating a camera, I loved the challenge of finding the perfect shot of an instrument on stage or of a person just enjoying the music on stage, it was as if the creative shots of what I’m filming were reflecting the beat that was going on stage, at the beginning of the job, I felt like I was being cringy because I was thinking slowly when it had to be fast, but when I got the drill, it felt like as if I’m making the camera dance to the music, and that way my skills in camera operating were developed, and I loved every aspect of this job, the thing that I disliked about this job was when a person comes on stage and talks for hours, while camera operating this person moves while talking, so it was pretty annoying specially if his or her speech was boring, because its like you snooze and lock the tripod on a specific shot then suddenly the person talking moves and gets out of the shot, it was a challenge for me because I’d be really tired sometimes because I’d take a lot of shifts in one day with less breaks in between, what I also didn’t like was the content of what I was filming, I didn’t agree with most stuff that was preformed politically and socially, they were racists against arab even though they were all foreigners and didn’t even know most of the video crew were arabs, I tried my best not to let it affect me and I stayed professional, but some days I was just boiling inside from the speeches I was hearing, but I’m proud that I stuck to my job and stayed professional.
my strengths are: creative, professional, open minded and respect people who are different and know how to deal with them
my weaknesses: procrastination, not being able to manage my sleeping patterns so I can be on time
I can improve those by making a time table and sticking to them, reading books and educating myself more on being professional
I would like to learn the skill of communication so I can make better connections
I’d like to improve on my communication skills, so when I get into the business of filmmaking, I can make good connections to develop my work, my plan is whenever I attend a movie premier I want to step out of my comfort zone and getting to know people who are already in this industry, and listen to them and learn from them.
